The Logan boys basketball team suffered its first loss of the season during a 74-68 decision to the host team Saturday in the championship game of the Clayton Tournament.
Chase Earle led the Longhorns (6-1) with 21 points, while Dyson Day added 19 points. Dante Sanchez had 16 points.
The third quarter proved crucial in the loss to Clayton, Logan coach Kyle Griffiths said.
“We had a stretch in the third quarter where Clayton hit 13 unanswered points,” he said. “We went from leading 50-40 to down 53-50. That was the difference in the game.”
Clayton improved to 4-3 overall.
Logan 73, Cimarron 62
Day scored 30 points to lead Logan to a 73-62 victory Friday over Cimarron during the semifinals of the Clayton Tournament.
Sanchez added 10 points for the Longhorns and Jason Knight scored eight.
Logan led 39-21 at intermission and 62-36 at the end of the third period. The Rams (6-2) mounted an ultimately futile comeback attempt during the fourth quarter, outscoring Logan 25-11.
Logan 56, Raton 38 The Longhorns raced to a 28-12 lead in the first half en route to a 56-38 victory Thursday in the first round of the Clayton Tournament. Day led Logan with 20 points, and Earle added 15. Raton fell to 4-4 overall.
Elida 74, Grady/San Jon/House 41
The host team of the Elida Invitational tournament took control early against Grady/San Jon/House en route to a 74-41 semifinal victory Friday at the Elida Invitational.
The Tigers (5-2) outscored the Bronchos 17-5 in the first period.
Chisum Rush scored 22 points to lead the Bronchos.
Grady/San Jon/House fell to 2-4 overall.
Grady/San Jon/House 55, Dora 53
The Bronchos took a 31-26 lead at halftime and made it stand up during a 55-53 victory Thursday in the first round of the Elida Invitational.
Rush scored 17 points to lead Grady/San Jon/House, and Chad Becerra added 12. The Bronchos went 6-for-9 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to fend off Dora's charge.
Dora fell to 1-3.
Grady/San Jon/House 70, Des Moines 58
Rush and Becerra each scored 19 points as the Bronchos toppled the host Demons 70-58 on Dec. 11.
“We did a great job finding the open man to shoot layups, and we contested their shooters,” Bronchos coach Jonathan Langan said. Isaiah Mitchell also scored 11 points for Grady/San Jon/House. Des Moines dropped to 1-5 overall.
