1968: Tomorrow is the deadline for entries in San Jon’s Christmas Lighting Contest, sponsored by the San Jon Civic Club. The contest offers an electrical appliance from the Farmers Electric Co-op for first prize. Second prize is $5 cash from the civic club.
• The Safeway grocery in Tucumcari advertised two bunches of large, crisp Pascal celery for 15 cents. Cooper’s Market in Tucumcari advertised California Sunkist navel oranges for 21 cents a pound and Washington extra-fancy red delicious apples for 29 cents a pound.
• The Circle S Lounge at 1010 E. Gaynell (aka Route 66) advertised “wonderful dance music” from JePe’s Quartet on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
