Serving the High Plains
The Logan girls basketball team had little trouble during its season-opening game with a 55-36 win Friday at Clayton.
Karli Webb led the Lady Longhorns with 18 points, Makenna Brewer added 13, and Karlee Cnatrell scored 10.
Logan seized a 19-6 lead over the Yellowjackets in the first quarter and never trailed after that.
Logan coach Glynna Strand said her team "had some starters out with injuries and had some younger players that stepped up and filled those roles really well."
Strand also praised Webb and Harlie Roach for their rebounding, especially on defense.
Elida 40, Grady 22
The Lady Bronchos proved to be no match for the defending Class A state champion Lady Tigers during a 40-22 loss Saturday at Grady in the season-opening game for both teams.
Isabelle Martinez led Grady with 12 points.
Elida took a 17-6 lead in the first quarter and fattened it to 27-11 by intermission.
"Elida's defense had us frustrated offensively the whole night," Lady Bronchos coach Rebecca Burns said. "We never got into any groove. Turnovers killed us. I have a lot of young ones without much varsity experience."
Grady is beginning its first season with a cooperative agreement with the San Jon and House school districts.
