1968: A San Jon housewife who preferred to remain anonymous today disclosed she saw a flying saucer that also was seen in Groom, Texas, the same night a week ago. The woman said she happened to be looking out a front window of her home about 7 p.m. when she noticed a bright, colorful UFO flying what appeared to be several feet south of U.S. 66. The saucer was traveling west to east at a low altitude and was on a steady course. She said she saw the object only about five seconds before it mysteriously turned off its lights and apparently continued flying in total darkness. She said the UFO was not a meteor or an airplane. She described it was being saucer-shaped with a dome in the center. The top of the dome was bright orange, the center a lighter shade of orange and the bottom of the dome was yellow. The dome emitted a steady glow similar to a light bulb. The bottom part of the craft was shiny white and did not appear to by a silvery color like usual aircraft. The UFO emitted a white smoke that could be seen behind it in a big puff. The woman said she did not report the sighting to authorities for fear of being ridiculed. KFDA-TV in Amarillo ran a news account about a UFO sighting in Groom that same night.
