Logan takes No. 1 seed in district volleyball

Logan captured the No. 1 seed in this week’s Class 6-A district volleyball tournament, while Grady/San Jon received the third seed despite two losses in the previous week.

The winner of the Fort Sumner-Clovis Christian match Nov. 5 was scheduled to play the Lady Bronchos at Grady at 6 p.m. Tuesday. A final score of that match wasn’t available before press start.

The winner of that match travels to face No. 2 seed Melrose at 6 p.m. Thursday. The Lady Longhorns then host the winner of that matchup at 6 p.m. Saturday for the district title.

The district champion advances to the state tournament Nov. 15-17.

Logan 3, Clovis Christian 0

Logan wrapped its regular-season district schedule without a loss Thursday by beating Clovis Christian 25-15, 25-13, 25-13 at Clovis.

Harlie Roach led the Lady Longhorns with nine kills, while Karli Webb had eight kills and 11 assists.

The Lady Longhorns improved to 17-3 overall and 8-0 in district play. They are ranked third in the Class A state rankings by MaxPreps.com, behind only No. 1 Melrose (17-2) and Quernado (19-0).

The Eagles fell to 2-13 overall, 0-8 in the district.

Fort Sumner 3, Grady/San Jon 1

Melrose 3, Grady/San Jon 0

Grady/San Jon finished its district schedule Thursday with a 23-25, 25-17, 15-25, 22-25 loss at Fort Sumner.

The Lady Bronchos, ranked ninth in Class 1A by MaxPreps.com, dropped to 11-9 overall and 3-5 in district play.

The Vixens improved to 8-12, 3-5 and are ranked 12th in Class A.

The host Lady Bronchos played top-ranked Melrose tough Oct. 30 but fell 20-25, 16-25, 23-25.

Leah Starbuck led the Lady Bronchos with eight kills and eight assists during the match against the Lady Buffalos (17-2, 6-2 in district), who are ranked No. 1 in Class A in MaxPreps.com. Hannah Bobbitt also had eight assists, and Isabelle Martinez made 19 digs.
