Hospital receives award for quality improvement

Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari received a Hospital Innovation Improvement Award last week for two years of improvement in quality and patient safety.

The award was presented Sept. 26 at the 73rd annual meeting of the New Mexico Hospital Association in Albuquerque.

According to a news release, Trigg Hospital is one of 15 New Mexico hospitals recognized for excellence during the award’s 2016-2018 time period. The hospital was recognized for decreasing the number of patient falls and readmissions.

“At Dr. Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital, our teams are focused on always improving the quality and safety of the care we provide to our patients,” Vickie Gutierrez, chief nursing executive, stated in the release. “We are proud of our success and appreciate this recognition.”

Overall goals of the initiative are to achieve a 20 percent decrease in overall patient harm and a 12 percent reduction in readmissions from 2014 baseline numbers by 2019.
