• The Quay County Commission approved a lease of county-fair building to Tucumcari Industries to set up garment-industry operations here. The commission gave its OK to a six-year lease to the firm’s owners, Albert Keck and Houston A. Doss. The lease was set up to be rent-free the first year and $300 a month thereafter. It’s anticipated the firm will build its own plant sometime next summer.
• Lyn Plummer, 11, of Tucumcari, on his horse, Sim’s Twist, earned the All-Around junior award during the Union County 4-H Horse Show in Clayton. His twin brother, Lee, showed the reserve-champion gelding at the show’s junior halter division.
