Leaders can't ignore global warming much longer
The wild weather the world has been experiencing was known to be coming some time ago. The scientific community tried to warn our leaders but was ignored by most.
Our political leaders heeded the call of money and getting elected instead of what was in the long-term interest of the planet and human civilization.
The trend to a hotter environment is clear: 17 of the 18 hottest years since record keeping began have occurred since 2001.
Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will cause global temperature to rise is a scientific fact, the same as gravity. And more carbon dioxide has been released in the atmosphere since November 1989 than in the entire history of civilization.
In 1990, 20 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide were burned; in 2017, 32.5 billion metric tons.
Carbon level in the atmosphere now is the highest level in 800,000 years. Scientists say that if we keep going at our current pace, by mid century in some cities of the world a human being will not be able to survive outside for more than six hours.
With all the evidence and facts backed by science what have we done? Not one binding commitment.
The last 25 years the fossil fuel industry has tried to suppress science, confuse the public and bribe politicians. Jimmy Carter tried to promote clean energy, Reagan tried to eliminate anything all presidents had done prior to him to protect the environment. Democrats from fossil fuel areas joined the bandwagon.
The most critical thing we face today is the rejection of science by our “leaders?”on global warming. This is not conservative or liberal, it is science vs bovine excreta and will determine our fate.
That should be the dominant thing in our mind when voting for anybody or anything.
