Mesalands Community College's Board of Trustees unanimously approved the submission of a contract to John D. Groesbeck to become the next president of the institution.
"A contract will be drawn up and submitted to Dr. Groesbeck and contingent on him signing, we are one step closer to having a new president," said Jim Streetman, trustee chair.
The board of trustees approved the submission of the contract today, following an executive session during a special meeting at Mesalands.
Groesbeck, of North Ogden, Utah, was one of two finalist that visited Mesalands this month to tour the facility, meet with campus faculty, staff and take part in public forums. Robert M. Munoz from Fort Worth, Texas was the second finalist.
The board of trustees began the search for a new president after accepting the resignation of then president Thomas Newsom on Feb. 20. Newsom's last day was April 6.
Newsom said he accepted a position at a institute closer to his family home in McKinney, Texas.
