Quay County received more than $1 million from the latest New Mexico Legislative session for improvements to multiple agencies — including the Quay County Detention Center, Tucumcari, Logan Senior Citizens Centers and Arch Hurley Conservancy District.
“I consider it a great privilege to advocate for important projects throughout northeastern New Mexico,” said District 67 State Rep. Dennis Roch (R-Logan). “This is why I was proud to support this legislation, which contains funding for so many of our area’s local priorities.”
According to a release from Roch, Quay County will receive $325,000 of Capital Outlay funding from Severance Tax Bonds.
House Bill 306, which passed both the House and Senate unanimously, initially proposed spending $179.8 million on local and statewide projects, including needed security upgrades at courthouses and public schools, as well as safety improvements at hazardous dams.
The Quay County Detention Center will receive $225,000 that will be used for much needed building renovations, said Richard Primrose, Quay County Manager.
Primrose said Quay County also received $50,000 for county road improvements. He said the money will help in facilitating improvements that have been much needed.
The Arch Hurley Conservancy District will use the $50,000 in capital outlay funding for equipment purchases to help streamline the delivery of the irrigation waters to its members, said Franklin McCasland, District Manager.
The largest amount of funding for Quay County entities comes from Senate Bill 94, that has more than $1.5 million in General Obligation Bonds funding slated for various projects.
General obligation dollars are approved contingent on voters during hte November general election.
The GOB funding of $150,000 will be used for the parking lot and side walk repairs at the Logan Senior Citizens Center, said Rosalie Rachor, interim Village Manager.
Additional projects and agencies receiving money from the GOB funding include:
• $800,000 for renovations of Mesalands Community College’s Building A
• $207,800 for improvements at Tucumcari Senior Citizen Center
