Serving the High Plains
The following are Q&A’s with candidates Logan mayoral candidates David Babb and Tommy Smith.
Both candidates were asked the same questions on the spot. The municipal election is scheduled for 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Logan Civic Center, 901 Martinez.
David Babb
What qualifies you as the best candidate for the office you are seeking?
I am running because, I feel I could make a difference. I have 11 years of experience as the former mayor.
What are your community’s two or three biggest issues?
We have the same issues as smaller communities. We have trouble maintaining a workforce, the infrastructure. It would be great to fix all the streets, but the problem is how do you pay for the repairs?
What are your community’s biggest strengths?
The people are the biggest strength, this is a close-knit community. There has been some division lately but our town will heal. Another strength is Ute Lake. We have to work to protect the water in the lake, that provides a revenue stream for the community and draws in tourist.
What do you want to see your community accomplish while you’re in office?
I would like to see the Village of Logan continue to prosper. I want Logan to continue to be the wonderful community we have all come to love.
Tommy Smith
What qualifies you as the best candidate for the office you are seeking?
I have served the community as a member of the booster club, chamber of commerce and currently sit on the Lodgers Tax Board. Logan is a community that is near and dear to my heart, one that I love. I would love to represent the community. I have also been active as a resident in several major issues including the Ute Lake 3765 campaign. I was very outspoken about in the opposition of the borehole being brought to this area.
What are your community’s two or three biggest issues?
I can’t speak for the entire community, but it would be nice if we could work together towards achieving what is best for the Village of Logan. When I say what is best for the entire village, I mean for all of our residents, tax payers and merchants. We need to work towards the benefit of the entire community not just special interest groups.
What are your community’s biggest strengths?
We are a group of people that choose to live here because we love this area. What makes Logan different than other communities is we show growth and that is due to Ute Lake. We live in a low cost of living, safe environment that has a great education system in Logan Schools. The school system is one of the main reasons I raised my family here. We have all had opportunities to go somewhere, but this is home. Another strength in our community is when there is a family in need we come together to help anyway we can.
What do you want to see your community accomplish while you’re in office?
I’d like to see us work together that benefit Logan in a positive way.
