PORTALES — And up they climb.
Eastern New Mexico University’s football team continues to play well and continues getting recognized for it.
Last Thursday, the Greyhounds went on the road and pummeled West Liberty 45-24. Monday, they were honored by moving up a spot in a national poll.
Regularly-ranked in the AFCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll as of late, the Hounds remained there this week, inching up a spot from last week — from 21 to 20.
It is ENMU’s highest national ranking this season, and in program history. The Greyhounds were 24th three weeks ago. They moved up to 21 a week later without having to do anything because they were on a bye week.
Last week, the Hounds held firm at 21, even though they hammered Texas A&M-Kingsville 51-34.
After following up 51 points with 45, they find themselves in the top 20.
Eastern will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, hosting Lone Star Conference rival Midwestern State at Greyhound Stadium, with start time scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
