Ceremonies were held to commemorate those lost on Sept. 11.
Local organizations held remembrance ceremonies in honor of those affected by the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, along with a free meal to show support for our local law enforcement and first responders.
"The members of the program wanted to do something to give back to the community, while honoring 9-11 and local law enforcement and first responders," said Maria Garcia, director for the city's foster grandparent and senior companion program.
The city program, along with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2528 auxiliary, put together the effort.
"Events like the one I was not able to attend today, show our nation's and community's support for those directly and indirectly affected by 9-11," said U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Lujan, in a letter read by Ron Wilmont who represent Lujan.
Wilmont read Lujan's letter during the memorial ceremony and free meal held Monday at the VFW Post 2528 in Tucumcari.
