• Local residents working at the municipal swimming pool were Terry Turner, Leonard Wright, Ronnie Hall and O.J. Hart.
• Altar boys John Sanchez and Rudy Garcia rang the church bells of Saint Anne's in a "Bells of Freedom" commemoration ceremony of Independence Day across the nation.
• Members of the Quay County Police Officers Association held a cookout for officers and their families at Metropolitan Park. Francis Isler and Emmett Duke manned the grill while Mrs. Charles Keller and Police Chief Hubert Beasley did the prep work.
• The first brooms were produced at the New Mexico Broom Manufacturing Co. plant in Tucumcari. On hand for the red-letter day were Jerry Pluskett, John Cooper and Glen Gibson.
• There were 186 people at the Bell Ranch Reunion held at the Chappel-Spade Ranch headquarters. A ranch history was prepared and read by Mrs. Mattie D. Ellis at a potluck lunch.
