Tucumcari MainStreet has been designated as an accredited Main Street America program for meeting “rigorous performance standards” set by the National Main Street Center, according to a news release from the center.
Each year, the National Main Street Center and its coordinating program partners announce accredited Main Street America programs in recognition of their exemplary commitment to economic development and community revitalization based on preserving valuable assets already in the community, the news release said.
Performance standards an organization must meet include fostering strong public/private partnerships, securing an operating budget, tracking progress of programs and actively preserving historic buildings.
In the past year, Tucumcari MainStreet adopted the Metropolitan Redevelopment Plan for the downtown district, was selected for a Great Blocks on Main Street grant and supported a Historic Theaters Local Economic Development Act grant for the Odeon Theater’s emergency roof repairs, according to the release.
