Rockabilly on the Route kicks off Thursday

The fifth annual and final Rockabilly on the Route will begin Thursday with an expected crowd of more than 5,000 set to visit Tucumcari for the four-day music festival.

Rockabilly on the Route will feature the music of 25 bands from across the country and unique contests and events all aimed at celebrating Route 66 and classic Americana.

The contest will include the Beard and Mustache competition that was won last year by Logan resident Edwin Bruhn.

The 2017 Miss Rockabilly on the Route Pin-up, Mommy and Me Pin-up and contest will feature entrants from across the country, state, as well as local residents.

Several of these events, including the mommy and me pin up contest, were introduced during last year's Rockabilly and were well received, said Ungie Davila, co-event producer.

Local residents Dana Pacheco and Sutton Fought won the 2016 Mommy and Me pin-up contest.

The 2016 Miss Rockabilly on the Route pin-up competition was won by Nikole Zamora of Albuquerque.
