• The Tucumcari High School Safety Club set up a display on Gaynell Street that featured a wrecked car and a sign that read “Drive Carefully.”
• The Big O’ Tire store had it’s grand opening on West Gaynell Street. The manager of the store, Dale Titus, cut the ceremonial ribbon with chamber of commerce President Damon Kvols.
• Tommy Bauler of Tucumcari won a $100 Easter wardrobe from the C.R. Anthony Company.
• The Tucumcari Camp Fire Girls took over the city of Tucumcari as part of a special program to help explain the workings of city government. Mayor Kenneth Schlientz handed over temporary power to Teresa Mares. Several other city officials turned over their position in the city for the program. Jolene Broce acted as police chief.
• Workers began clearing and leveling the ground where the Quay Apartments would be built. The 64-unit supplement apartments were sponsored by the New Mexico District Council of Carpenters and Johners of America, AFL-CIO.
