Coach Roberts says the roster will be set by Tuesday’s game at Melrose.
The Tucumcari Rattlers baseball team has a young team with a lot of talent and potential to go far this season, according to first-year head coach Dwayne Roberts.
Roberts said the team is young, but they have been playing together for several years and that has him excited about the season.
“We may be young, but we are talented,” said Zach Martinez, senior.
Martinez said he is excited to see what the team is capable of this season. He said he is ready to take the mound and have a season to remember.
The guys need to work with each other and as a team in order to go far this season, said Josh Walker, junior.
Walker said the team has some younger players but that should not be a factor. He said several of the younger players have been playing baseball since youth leagues.
Roberts said they have 22 players out competing for a spot on the varsity and junior varsity teams. He said he will have the roster set by Tuesday’s game at Melrose.
Last year, the Rattlers were 5-14, 2-6.
