Lady Rattlers play Thursday at Pecos.
The Tucumcari Lady Rattlers Softball team has a new head coach and players who are ready to open up the season of possibilities.
"I have seen early season dedication from these ladies," said Donnie Garcia. Lady Rattlers head coach.
Garcia said the team has responded well to his new position as head coach and is willing to do the work to have a successful season. He said the girls have been working on drills, conditioning and even helping out with field maintenance.
"We want to do whatever it takes to get to state and win," said senior Destinee Montano.
This season is starting off with an exciting outlook; we have a new head coach, a strong team and several people willing to help out, said Alyssa Martinez, junior shortstop.
There is always pressure to have a winning season and make it to state but for the seniors, there is a lot more pressure, said Kayla Cherry, senior.
"This is the last time we will play on the field as a Lady Rattler," said Cristal Hernandez, senior.
Garcia said there are currently 27 players who have come out for the team and after an inner team scrimmage, the varsity and junior varsity rosters will be set before their first games on Thursday at the Pecos Tournament at Pecos.
Last year, the Lady Rattlers were 11-11, 2-6 and lost to Loving in the first round of the 3A state softball tournament.
