Most Democrats stuck in denial

Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minnesota, recently remarked on CNN, “I think that Donald Trump has already done a number of things which legitimately raise the question of impeachment.”

Ellison went on to state that, “On day one, he was in violation of the emoluments clause. This is a part of the Constitution that says as president you can’t get payments from a foreign power.”

The Title of Nobility Clause, also known as the Emoluments Clause, proclaims: “No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.”

Ellison explains that any foreign diplomat who pays to stay in a Trump hotel would be providing an emolument to the president. He neglects to explain how the head of a foreign government who provided the Clinton Foundation with $10 million while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state would not be providing an emolument to Hillary.

This appears to be another block in the wall of denial being built by establishment Democrats to counteract the reality of the recent presidential election.

Although denial is generally accepted as the first stage of grief, it’s really the first of our reactions to any form of sudden loss. In denial, individuals generally believe that the obvious is somehow mistaken and cling to a false reality.

A review of other blocks in the wall include Green Party candidate Jill Stein’s failed recount effort and the campaign to convince electoral college electors to change their vote. The campaign did produce seven faithless electors, but five of them were faithless to the Democratic nominee and only two changed their vote from Trump.

The final block involved the hope that Vice President Joe Biden would find some objection to certifying the officially tallied electoral votes from the 2016 presidential election. Despite more than 10 objections from Democrat House members, Biden gaveled them down and certified the election.

Although most establishment Democrats appear to be stuck in the denial phase of grief, some long-time elected members of the House of Representatives have progressed to the second stage: “Anger.”

Maxine Waters, D-California, has berated the Trump administration as, “a bunch of scumbags.”

Bookies all over the country are laying seven to one odds that Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi won’t get to the fifth stage of “acceptance” before Trump serves out his second term.
