• Emmit Jennings of Tucumcari celebrated his 91st birthday. Jennings had been a booster for the city since he moved to Tucumcari in 1907. Also known as “Mr. Baseball,” Jennings had not missed a World Series game in 50 years and the American League would issue him a complimentary pass every year. He would also receive a birthday card from the American League.
• Arthur L. White began working as the newest police officer for the Tucumcari Police Department. White had worked for several years with his father in San Jon, operating the White Water Well Service before becoming an officer.
• The Canadian Soil and Water Conservation District recognized seven area farmers and ranchers for their work in conservation with a roast beef dinner at the Pow Wow restaurant. The farmers and ranchers were Wayne Jackson, Bob Gates, Aaron Parker, George and Ross Faver, Bill Purcell and Charles Dailey.
