Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi was on “Meet the Press” recently and demanded once again that the FBI investigate any links that President Trump may have with Russia and Vladimir Putin.
Pelosi demanded, “I want to know what the Russians have on Donald Trump. I think we have to have an investigation by the FBI into his financial, personal and political connections to Russia and we want to see his tax returns so we can have truth in the relationship (with) Putin, whom he admires,”
I have no idea what ties or links President Trump has with the Russians. But the Obama administration’s State Department, under the direction of Hillary Clinton, tried eagerly to establish any kind of liaison with the Russians.
In March of 2009, Secretary Clinton presented Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with a “reset” button, with the implication that the U.S. wished to begin a new era of friendship with the Russian government.
As it turned out, the State Department imprinted the Russian word for “overloaded” on the button rather than “reset.” This blunder would come to characterize a relationship that started badly and went downhill.
I have no idea what relationship President Trump has with Vladimir Putin but President Obama seemed to hold Putin in high regard as evidenced by the following exchange between Obama and Dmitry Medvedev, then president of Russia:
President Obama: “On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.”
Medvedev: “Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you …”
Obama: “This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.”
Medvedev: “I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir (Putin).”
I don’t know what the Russians have on Trump, but I know what they have on Hillary Clinton. According to the Democratic Party, they have a complete set of all of the emails sent from all members of her campaign staff. According to FBI Director James Comey, it is likely they further have all of the information she transmitted and received on one of her many unsecure electronic devices while traveling in Russia, China and Israel.
An in-depth investigation into the relationship between the Russian government and the U.S. government should probably include the emails between President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton sent and received on her unsecure server to determine just what the Russians have on everyone.
Maybe Rep. Pelosi should re-think her demand for an investigation.
