Officials of Rockabilly on the Route, a Route 66 music festival, announced on Monday that this year’s fifth annual event will be the last in Tucumcari.
Officials cited in a press release that they have decided to take a break from the festival for now to pursue "other exciting ventures, events and opportunities."
Rockabilly on the Route first came to Tucumcari as the creation of co-founders Simon Cantlon and Ungie Davila. For the past five years, the duo has coordinated, planned and organized the event into a successful annual event.
Since the event's beginning, the crowd has grown from 1,500 during it’s inaugural year to more than 5,000 last year. The final Rockabilly is scheduled June 1-4
“Since 2013, we have produced this festival with love and grown it with the local community and its attendees into what it is today — the biggest event of its kind in New Mexico and on Route 66,” Cantlon said in the release. “We all have so many amazing memories from these years, and we hope you will join us in making new memories at this year's final festival.”
