• “Escape Clause,” by John Sandford. Virgil Flowers of the Minnesota
Bureau of Criminal Apprehension must deal with the theft of tigers from
the local zoo.
• “The Underground Railroad,” by Colson Whitehead. A slave girl heads
toward freedom on the network, envisioned as actual tracks and tunnels.
