• Congressman Tom Morris spoke with members of the Tucumcari Kiwanis Club on issues such as mutual cooperation and understanding needed between the federal government and business during the international crisis at the time.
• The Tucumcari State Police were put onto the state police teletype net connecting Tucumcari with dozens of other state police agencies located in other cities instantly. Put into operation by a Western Union plant maintainer, state police secretary Mary Ann Bartow transmitted the first message from Tucumcari to the other statewide agencies at 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 12, reading “To all stations: Tucumcari is now on the system.”
• Twelve Tucumcari high schools students were inducted into the National Honor Society for their outstanding academic record. Those inducted were Nancy Thornberry, Glynda Reilman, Margaret Mundell, Cornelia Martinez, Ricky Hall, Leonard Garcia, Linda Dull, Lita Chavez, Vickie Breen, Dale Blann, Larry Bennett and Richard Reid.
