Logan High’s graduates earn $360,000 in scholarships

Logan High School’s 17 graduates for 2014 walked away with more than $360,000 in scholarships, as well as the diplomas they received in cermonies Saturday in the Logan High School gym.

Anna Hibner, the school’s registrar announced long lists of scholarships won by the graduates as they head for Mesalands Community College, as well as other colleges and trade schools.

Salutatorian Brea Valentine recounted some class memories, including the time when some classmates turned a clock five minutes ahead in junior high school. That, she remembered, led to about a week of detention.

Valedictorian James Egerton said he hoped he and his classmates would “work to live, not live to work” and to live with integrity “and be true to who you are.”

Six of the graduates read a poem about the graduates’ progress through school. They had a theme of “we wished we were older.” On graduation night, however, the wish was to be younger, since they know that their time together will now becom memories.

Rusell Feerer, a teacher who presided over presentation of gifts to parents, in which graduates presented flowers and gifts to their parents, ended the session by telling the graduates, “The future is bright. Go shine.”

The graduates are LaShawna Byrd, Genae Cone, Dennis Earle, James Egerton, Sierra Evans, Jerrica Gonzales, Jessica Gonzales, Skylar Loftis, Angel Martinez, Tyler Mehl, Connie Payne, Amy Raines Baxter, Christopher Roberts, Jena Slater, Leah Taylor, Rebecca Trujillo and Brea Valentine.
