Logan area residents filled the school's gymnasium to send Logan High School's 15-member Class of 2013 into young adulthood on May 18.

Logan High School awarded diplomas to 15 graduates at commencement ceremonies Saturday. The Valedictorian was Jordan Egerton; the salutatorian, Whitney Cordova. Teressa Bruehn, a retired teacher and senior class sponsor, delivered the commencement address. More pictures and information will be in next week's Quay County Sun.

Colleen Kulbeck, who teaches English and journalism, provided keyboard music to usher in the graduates, wearing bright red satin robes and mortarboards. She played a version of "Pomp and Circumstance" to end the ceremony.

Salutatorian Whitney Cordova and Valedictorian Jordan Egerton spoke to the gathering, and the graduating class presented its 2013 Senior Video program.

If there was a commencement speech, it was in the memories, fond and troublesome, that Teressa Bruhn, a retired teacher who was the senior class sponsor, recalled about her dealings in past years with the graduates.

Bruhn then led the class in the serious business of shifting their tassels from the left side of their mortarboards to the right, a traditional sign that they had indeed received diplomas.

After the benediction, delivered by teacher Patricia Thompson, another class sponsor, Bruhn then commanded the class to stand up, face the audience, then throw their caps into the air to mark the real end to their high school careers, honoring another Logan High tradition.
