Railroad workshop conducted

Union Pacific Railroad police conducted a workshop May 14 for Quay County law enforcement officers on grade-crossing collision investigation.

Leo Marquez, the Union Pacific senior special agent who coordinated the event in Tucumcari, said participating police officers learned how railroad crossing signals work, where they can get information about railroad equipment and operations and special safety concerns at a rail crossing.

In addition, the public agency police got a tour of the inside of a locomotive, Marquez said.

Police officers representing the Tucumcari Police Department, Quay County Sheriff's Department, New Mexico State Police, Logan Police Department, and the New Mexico Transportation Police participated.
