Police said a Colorado man injured in a crash Friday on U.S. 54 near Tucumcari died three days later at an Amarillo hospital.
Roger Dyrdal, 45, of North Glenn Colo., died at the Amarillo hospital where he was transferred from Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari, said Wendy Grafp, New Mexico Transportation Police public information officer.
Grafp said officers responded to the report of a collision involving two semis on U.S. 54 at mile marker 312 east of Tucumcari. She said the eastbound tractor-trailer driven by Dyrdal crossed over into the westbound lane, striking a semi driven by Cody Bode, 31, of Elgin Neb.
She said Dyrdal's semi continued to cross the westbound lane landing in a ditch and catching fire.
Grafp said after the collision a third truck driven Adam Johnson, 30, of Newman Grove Neb., drove over some of the debris.
Grafp said Drydal, Bode and Johnson were transported for treatment at Dan C. Trigg. She said during the transfer to Amarillo, Drydal suffered a cardiac arrest, was revived but slipped into coma.
Grafp said the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
