Route 66 museum receives $5,000 donation

Vi Reeves, chairman of the board for First National Bank of New Mexico, presented a $5,000 check Monday to the Route 66 Museum.

Reeves said there is much enthusiasm in the community for the museum and the bank is proud to be a part of the project.

The Route 66 Museum is scheduled to open doors to the public in June. The museum is in the Fort Bascom room in the Tucumcari Convention Center.

Larry Bond, museum committee member, said the facility will have a soft opening with some exhibits ready for display for the upcoming Wheels on Route 66 and Rockabilly on Route 66 events the first part of June. He said that sometime after these two events the museum should be open for business.

Warren Frost, museum board member, fundraiser and legal advisor, said it was great to see so many people support the museum and that Tucumcari Federal Savings and Loan Association has already donated $3,000 and the McMullen Trust has committed $5,000 to the museum.
