The Mesalands Community College Rodeo Women's Team brought home another championship title and three individual titles in weekend competition at Navajo Tech.
The Women's Team earned 600 points and is now fifth in the nation.
The Men's Team finished in third place with 465 points and won two individual titles.
"The Women's Team had a great weekend. We almost had a clean sweep in all of the women's events," said C.J. Aragon, Mesalands intercollegiate rodeo coach said. "We have many individuals on both teams doing very well this season. Right now it looks we have 11 or more individuals that will be
qualifying for nationals."
Sophomore Macy Fuller dominated at Navajo Tech. She was crowned the Women's All-Around Champion and the Goat Tying Champion. She also came in second in barrel racing and sixth in breakaway roping.
Fuller is currently leading the Grand Canyon Region in the Women's All-Around
and the goat tying event.
Teammate Shelby Rita of Sunset Beach, Hawaii, won the breakaway roping championship title and is currently first in the region in this event and third in national standings.
For the men, Cody Heffernan of Singleton, Australia, electrified the bull riding event, bringing home the championship title. Heffernan is leading in the national standings and in the region in bull riding.
Another Aussie on the team, Chris Clark of Raymond Terrace, Australia, was named the Reserve Bull Riding Champion at the rodeo. Teammate Moroni Wadsworth of Panaca, Nev., took sixth place in bull riding.
In team roping, Morgan McVay of Reno, Nev., and Victor Ugalde from New Mexico State University won the first Mesalands Team Roping Championship title this season. Chaz Kanenan from Roy, Mont., and Daniel Baeza from Chihuahua, Mexico, finished the rodeo in sixth place in team roping.
