Serving the High Plains

New businesses - March 27

Tucumcari will be the site of a new business with Kodiak Fresh Produce set to open in mid-April, soon, Site Manager John Perry said Monday.

Perry, who is from Logan, said their goal is to be the biggest employer in Quay County. He said that they will start with about 25 employees and plan to hire more in the future.

Applications can be picked up at the old broom corn factory at 815 East Whitmore St., between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. There

is a background check and when hired, there will be a drug screen.

Perry said that the headquarters for Kodiak is based in Phoenix, Ariz. and the company is now serving 17 states.

"We have been working very hard getting the old building cleaned up and

painted ready to start business" said Perry. He said that the company will have all types of fruits and vegetables and they plan on setting up a farmers market.

Donny Segura, foreman of the Tucumcari based Kodiak, said he is

very happy the building is finally starting to come together and take shape for what they will be doing.

City Manager Doug Powers said the company has signed a five-year contract lease contract with the city. Powers said he feels Kodiak will be bringing great things to the city by hiring people to get the building in shape for business, by putting local businesses to work and by hiring employees to work for Kodiak.
