Serving the High Plains

Thomas: Longing for spring showers

I know I'm not alone when I say I can't hardly wait for the warmth of spring. Give me thunderstorms, give me hail. I'll even take a power outage or two.

In case you haven't heard or read I don't like the cold. In fact, I despise the snow. If it weren't for the need of moisture I'd say do away with snow all together, in our area if course.

I can understand snow being in the areas of the world where people ski, though there is no need for snow to share the ground with cactus.

I long for the return of those wonderful April showers, when the grass is green and the flowers are a bloom.

Everything seems to come alive when spring rolls around; the landscape, animals and even us humans.

Bears are not the only ones to hibernate once the cold weather comes around. It seems that the cold weather drives us all inside, with the majority of us peering out the widows for some glimmer of sunshine and return of heat.

Although fall and winter have some benefits, it means football is in full swing, though as we all know come February we're back to waiting for fall again.

It's sort of a Catch 22 — I want Spring to get here for the warmth and approaching summer, though I'm secretly rooting against myself wishing for fall and winter to once again have my football.

Cook-outs, sunny vacations and the wonderful rumble of thunder that is what I long for and am willing to wait like the rest of us for the return of football.

In the meantime, winter if you could do me a favor and take an early break this year and remind your fellow season spring to bring with it lots of rain, I and many others would be appreciative.
