The 10-5 Longhorns lost 61-56 in overtime to the visiting 8-7 Lions in a game that was rescheduled due to snow earlier this month.

"The team played good defense and we have a little way to go," said Rafael Roybal, Longhorns head coach.

The Longhorns trailed throughout the game as the Lions patience on offense took time off the clock and aggressive play on defense limited the Longhorns second-chance shots.

"Time was not much of a factor," Roybal said. "We were able to keep up with them and eventually match their play."

The Longhorns rallied in the final minutes of the game to pull within three points after trailing by as much as 10 points.

With 12 second left on the clock a desperation 3-pointer by Hayes Frost sent them into overtime.

"I stepped into the shot and let it fly," Frost said. "I have tried that shot in practice before and never made it. Though it just felt right when it left my hands."

The Longhorns made a strong effort to keep up with the Lions though fell short in the end.

"We just have to keep rolling," Frost said. "We can't dwell on the loss, we just have to work harder."

The Longhorns will host the 8-5 Tucumcari Rattlers on Thursday.

"The Rattlers are a strong team and we will be looking to contain their point guard Chris Crespin," Roybal said.

It was a different story for the (10-5) Lady Longhorns who routed the (6-12) Lady Lions 71-41.

"We are a hard team to beat at home," said Clair Rachor, Lady Longhorns head coach.

The Longhorns jumped out to an early lead with three different players scoring 3-point baskets. Marissa Miller and Brooke Rachor both made two and Shana Sorrels made one.

"We were able to take care of the ball to a certain degree," Rachor said. "The girls played well and were able to control the tempo of the game."

Rachor said he is looking forward to Thursday nights game against the (4-11) Lady Rattlers. He said he knows they are a patient team and they are just going to have to play their game.

"The younger players are beginning to step up and you can see that on the court," Rachor said. "We are going to continue working on getting better which all we can do."
