A presidential screening committee has been selected by the Mesalands Community College's Board of Trustees.
The board of trustees voted unanimously to approve the 13-member committee and will meet with them during a special board meeting at 5:30 p.m., on Friday.
"We feel we have a well grounded group of individuals for this committee," said James Streetman, committee chairman.
Streetman said the committee includes members from the college, foundation and residents of Tucumcari. He said the trustees want to make sure that all areas of interest are covered by the committee.
The committee will screen applicants applying to fill the vacancy left after the board of trustees fired Mildred Lovato through a certified letter.
The board of trustee's have never cited a reason for Lovato's termination, though they voted unanimously to end her contract of employment on Oct. 31 following an executive session at a special board meeting.
Moore said the committee will be working again with Wayne Newton, a consultant who was used during the previous presidential search. He said Newton will be consulting the college but not as part of the Association of Community College Trustees.
Streetman, secretary/clerk of the Mesalands board, will serve as chairman of the presidential screening committee. J. Bronson Moore, chairman of the board of trustees, will serve as a member of this committee.
Other committee members include: David Arias, John Bauler, Laurie Bidegan, Roger Bowe, Connie Chavez, Craig Currell, Natalie Gillard, Janet Griffiths, Aaron Kennedy, Jim Morgan and Beth Sisneros.
