Serving the High Plains
Mesalands Community College is offering a new weight loss class this semester to help people reach their fitness goals in the New Year.
HPE 136: Health and Fat Loss Challenge is a 16-week educational and physical activity program to improve overall health while losing body fat. Weekly lectures will focus on the three cornerstones of a successful fat loss program: Negative caloric diet, physical activity and behavior modification, and will include guest lectures.
Weekly lectures will cover such topics as dieting 101, physical activity to burn calories, and addressing the behaviors that assisted in one's weight gain. This class will give students the opportunity to participate in structured exercise classes including, abdominal training, circuit training, Zumba III, and Zumba Toning.
Students may also partner-up to identify an exercise companion to help reach their goals, as well as independently exercise on their own. Pre/post challenge health related measurements will be used to identify improvements in health and fat loss.
The cost of the class is $92.50 and includes 24/7 access to the Fitness Center.
"Anybody who would want to get involved in a consistent exercise program, or is conscious about losing weight should sign up," said Tom Morris, Health and Wellness facility coordinator and instructor. "The information they will get from this class can have a lasting effect on a healthier and more active lifestyle for their future."
