The (7-3) Tucumcari Rattlers prepare for the first round of tournament play against a strong and underrated team in the 2A state tournament.
The number five seed Rattlers will host the 12-seeded Mesilla Valley Sonblazers at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rattler Stadium.
"If we don't win this game we didn't deserve to be in the tournament," said Wayne Ferguson Rattlers head coach.
Ferguson said (4-5) Mesilla Valley is much better than their supposed 12-seed ranking. He said they come from a tough district much like the Rattlers.
"Four of our district teams and four of their (Mesilla Valley) made the tournament," Ferguson said.
Ferguson said they can not take the Sonblazers lightly, if the do they will most likely be turning in their gear on Monday. He said they run a spread offense, which their quarterback has three good receivers to target and a strong running back in the back field.
"We are going to prepare and be ready to play come Saturday with our minds focused on Mesilla Valley," Ferguson said.
