Bond C on way to passing

With 61 percent of the votes in, state higher education Bond C was passing easily.

That means $1 million for renovations at Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari.

According to the New Mexico Secretary of State's website, Bond C was passing 278,051 votes to 176,354.

"This is a great development for Mesalands," said J Bronson Moore, chairman of the

board of trustees.

Moore said the funds would help to pay for roof repair and replacements of outdated air conditioning and heating systems at the college. He said the repairs would be far less costly than the construction of a new facility.

Moore said Bond C will not increase Quay County residents' property taxes. Gerald Burke, chairman of the G.O. Bond for Education Committee, said the bond will replace an expiring bond, at the cost of $6 per year per taxpayer based on information given by the state's Department of Finance and Administration.
