The Olympic torch passed through Tucumcari East on Route 66 en-route to Detroit, Mich., promoting the 1968 Summer Olympics.

Work continued on the new eye clinic of Dr. J.R. Mcausland. The new building contained an office, waiting room, work room, two refractory rooms and a frame room.

Fourth graders from Tucumcari's public schools paraded downtown to promote fire prevention and safety.

An U.S. Army Sikorsky H-37 helicopter landed at Tucumcari's municipal airport to refuel while en-route to Fort Sill, Okla.. The H-37 was at the time the Army's largest helicopter in use.

Tucumcari's Animal Clinic owned and operated by Dr. S.J. Dowds was enlarged and modernized to help in its coverage of Quay, Harding, Gaudalupe and San Miguel counties.
