Thursday to feature water forum

An open forum and panel discussion will be held on Thursday about the Ute Lake Reservoir at the North American Wind Energy and Research Center.

The event is being put on by the Mesalands Community College's Small Business Development Center and the Tucumcari/Quay County Chamber of Commerce.

The event will be free to the public and doors will open at 6 p.m., with the forum beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The panel will consist of Arch Hurley Manager Franklin McCasland, Greater Tucumcari Economic Development Corporation Director Patrick Vanderpool, Quay County Manager Richard Primrose and Tucumcari Commissioner Robert Lumpkin.

McCasland said all the citizens of Quay County understand or need to understand the water issues and how important the water is for our long term economic future.

Forum topics include: Drought conditions, minimum lake levels, potential costs to the county and the future of lake water rights.
