New Mexico in line for much-needed rainfall

ALBUQUERQUE — Drought-stricken New Mexico is anxiously awaiting the leftovers of storms that have drenched Las Vegas and other cities in the West.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque says the upper level system moving in from the West is expected to collide Wednesday with a cold front moving down through the heart of the state.

The combination will likely result in some of the most significant rainfall parched areas of northern New Mexico have seen all year.

Forecaster David Craft describes it as "a unique setup" where the storms build on monsoon moisture that's already in place.

Much of northern and central New Mexico could see anywhere from an inch to two inches of rain over the next day.

The rain isn't expected to fall all at once so forecasters have opted not to call for any flood warnings.
