First responders honored

More than 60 residents, EMS, firefighters and police attended the 9-11 ceremony Tuesday night at the American Legion Post 77 in Logan.

Logan residents and Quay County first responders took park in a candle light march Tuesday in remembrance of Sept. 11.

"We would like to thank the legion for honoring us today and to all those veterans who have served," said Teressa Bruhn, EMS first responder.

Members of Post 77 prepared a chicken fired steak dinner and held a memorial service and candlelight parade in remembrance of those who died on Sept. 11, 2001.

"You have to truly admire the dedication of those who were so dedicated to their calling," said Dave Hessler, Post 77 member,

Hessler said those who died on Sept. 11 did so performing the very duty they swore to uphold. He saidthe event is also held to remember the survivors of that tragic day as well.

Hessler said as a veteran he understands there may be some guilt felt by those who survived. He said he too has felt a similar guilt, having survived combat as a part of Company C 2nd Battalion 7th Calvary in Vietnam.

Hessler said from Nov. 14-17 of 1965, 145 soldiers lost their lives and 155 were wounded during that engagement. He said he always wonders why he was fortunate enough to survive and why others weren't so fortunate.

"We want to thank all of the first responders, firefighters, EMS and police, for their dedication and the service they perform day in and day out," said Bobby Casados, event coordinator.
