The Tucumcari Rattlers will be looking to limit mistakes in their second game of the season against (0-1) New Mexico Military Institute.
"We need to cut down on the mistakes and missed assignments," said Wayne Ferguson, Rattlers head football coach.
Ferguson said the Rattlers (1-0) will be looking for a different game style from the Colts on Friday night, one week after a 35-13 win over Raton. He said the Colts threw the ball quite a bit, though that was primarily due to them falling behind early in their 49-14 loss to Hatch Valley.
Ferguson said the Rattlers have continued to work on their conditioning, which was an issue against Raton. He said the team will continue to play aggressive defense and use a balanced offense on the field against the Colts.
"We never know what kind of team or what starters will return to the Colts' program," said Randy Montoya, Colts head football coach, noting that NMMI is a military school.
Montoya said each year their are new kids of varying age, talent and experience joining the team. He said the Colts have been going through a learning process and are working on putting the pieces together.
Montoya said the Colts are going to have to work on limiting their mental mistakes.
Montoya said the team is going to continue to work on improving week-by-week using each game as a stepping stone to improvement. He said the Colts are going to try and control what they can when they face the Rattlers.
"Coach Ferguson always brings a well prepared team," Montoya said.
