Christa Grace Strong, daughter of Stan and Clair Strong, of Tucumcari, celebrated her first birthday on Aug. 10. She celebrated with her family and friends at the Elks Lodge of Tucumcari with a pool party and Watsons BBQ. The special guests who came where her grandparents, Robert and Gay Strong of Portales along with lots of other family and friends. Her birthday theme was Hello Kitty and had a birthday cake made special by Dora Maes of Maes Special Occasions. Christa is loved and adored by her two brothers, Jaegar and Park and her two sisters, Heidi and AnnMarie. She also has a great grandmother, Jane Strong, of Tucumcari, and Grandad, Worth Smelser of Cuba and Grandma, Julie Smelser of Las Cruces.

Trenton E. Ward Y Garcia, 17 of Tucumcari graduated from Army basic training at Fort Jackson S.C., on Aug. 16. He is a member of the Tucumcari National Guard and is planning to graduating from Tucumcari High School this year. Garcia said he intends to attend college in New Mexico following his graduation.
