Quay County all-stars finish season with district title

The Quay County Senior League all-stars finish their year with a district championship and a state tournament appearance.

"I am so proud of these guys. They were a very dedicated group, coach B.J. Molinas said.

Molinas said the team lost their two state games, though he is so proud of the progress they made this year.

Molinas said the players showed their dedication all summer long, a few quitting their jobs or switching jobs to accommodate practices and games. He said their dedicated parents got them to practices early and made the games as well.

Molinas said all of their hard work paid off, and he looks forward to next year and seeing these young men progress.

Molinas said he will lose two players — Jordan Walker and Michael Olivas — next year to the age limit.

Olivas, a pitcher and shortstop, said winning the district championship was exciting. "It was a great feeling for all of the players and the community," he said.

"The team is looking forward to doing a lot next year," said first baseman and pitcher Chris Sandoval.

Sandoval said the team has its eyes set on another state appearance.
