Portales woman critical after Ute Lake accident

Shaina Pool, 22, of Portales, is in critical condition at an Amarillo hospital following a boating accident about 6 p.m. Sunday on Ute Lake in Logan, a family friend said.

State park officials investigating the accident have declined to provide details of the accident.

Rebecca Martinez Holt of Clovis said she helped organize a prayer vigil for Pool, a longtime family friend. The vigil was held Monday at Marshall Middle School, she said, and about 45 people attended.

Martinez Holt said Pool was apparently a passenger in the front of a boat filled with friends, who were heading into shore after a day on the lake.

She said the boat struck a wake as it was turning. Martinez Holt said Pool fell into the lake and was run over by the boat.

The extent of Pool's injuries aren't known. State park and state police investigators are expected to release more details sometime later Tuesday.
