Captivity is for your own good

As we all know nature can be beautiful and tragic all at the same time.

Bandit does her best to escape from her captors while she is left unattended on the ground. Little did Bandit know her action were being monitored.

Recently I have started taking care of two kittens who were orphaned after a bobcat ate their two siblings and mother.

The kittens now reside inside the house secure from the grips of the predator that I know was only seeking a meal to survive.

One of the kittens has a patch of coloring around its eyes, which brought me to name her Bandit.

It has only been three days and Bandit is very much living up to her name. Not only has she stolen the hearts of my parents and I, she has become quite the escape artist.

I watch Bandit as she climbs the walls of the box she is being kept in with her brother Squirt. Every time the lid is opened for feeding or cleaning, Bandit is quick to make her way up the walls of her prison.

I can only think of how she might view her temporary housing as a prison. She has no idea where her two other siblings and mother are, and these strange beings are holding her and her brother captive.

This morning after she was fed I placed Bandit on the floor. She spared no time in making a break for it. She made her way past the box and ventured out past my father's feet as he sat on the couch.

I'm not sure she knew where she was going, though she was very intent on getting there. She must have traveled what seemed like miles to her; to me it was about five steps across the room. I picked her up and as I went to place her back in the box she began to cry out.

Her cries echoing in the living room, "Help help help. I'm being held against my will."

As I work during the day my parents maintain a watchful eye over the kitties. From time-to-time I am updated on Bandit's escape attempts.

I started out wanting to rescue the kittens, and have now become a warden.
