Republican John Patrick "Pat" Woods will run for state senate in District 7, which includes Curry, Quay and Union counties.
Woods is a fourth-generation farmer in the Grady and Broadview area, encompassing parts of Curry and Quay counties.
He plans to focus on enacting education reforms and repealing the law that allows illegal immigrants to acquire driver's licenses.
The position is currently held by Clint Harden, R-Clovis, who declared he would not run for re-election. Angie Spears, a Clovis Republican, is the only other candidate in the race.
