Engagements

Mansell-Dowell

Randel and Cammy Mansell of Fort Sumner are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Lindsay, to Denton Dowell, son of Dallas and Sue Dowell of Tucumcari.

The bride-elect is a 2006 Fort Sumner High School graduate. She graduated from Clovis Community College in 2011 with a Registered Nursing degree. She is employed as a nurse by Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.

The groom-elect is a 2006 graduate from Logan High School. He graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 2011 with a degree in Agriculture Education. He is employed by Cactus Feeders as a feed foreman in Perryton.

The couple will be married on May 5, 2012 at Alexis Park Resort Chapel in Las Vegas, Nev. and will reside in Perryton.

Family and friends are welcome to attend. No local invitations will be sent.

Student of the month

Braziel

Marcus Braziel has been named Teenager or Student of the month, as announced by the Elk's Lodge. Marcus, age 16, is the son of Jason and Ellen Braziel of Tucumcari. He is a junior at Tucumcari High School.

The teenager or student of the month program is sponsored by the Elks Lodge in an effort to bring recognition to outstanding youth in the area.

Teenagers or student of the month are selected by a panel of youth in each participating high school within the jurisdiction of the sponsoring lodge.

Multiple achievement, citizenship, scholarship and leadership are the basis for selecting teenagers or students of the month.

Students are nominated monthly by classmates and teachers in their schools and then screened by a school student committee for selection as the teenager or student of the month.

Nominations for subsequent months' teenager or student will be accepted after the first Monday of each month.

Marcus has been active in football, basketball and National Honors Soceity.

Scholastically, he has an average grade of 4.0. He has had AP and honor classes and has maintained a 4.0 since the ninth grade.

Upon graduation, Marcus hopes to go to college to study Criminal Justice.
