FORT SUMNER — Senior guard G. A. Tucker scored 16 points and added six rebounds, five steals and three blocks Tuesday night as Fort Sumner beat Logan 48-38 in the District 8-1A girls tournament.
Tucker tied the score 26-26 with a basket midway through the third quarter, then gave the Vixens (18-9) the lead for good with one of her three 3-pointers.
LaNay Crenshaw added 13 points and Ashley Landreth 10 for Fort Sumner, which visits top-seeded Melrose in Thursday's 6 p.m. championship game.
Whitney Cordova scored 18 points for the Lady Longhorns (16-8).
MONDAY BOYS
MELROSE — Senior guard Skylar McMath and junior forward Shilo Boyle scored 20 points apiece and Fort Sumner erased a one-point halftime deficit Monday to beat Logan 66-49 in a playoff for the top seed in this week's District 3-1A boys tournament.
The Foxes (21-5) earned the right to host Friday's 7 p.m. championship game against either Logan (18-5) or third-seeded Melrose (11-14), who meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Logan.
The Longhorns jumped out to a 12-2 lead midway in the first quarter and held a 28-27 halftime lead before the Foxes took off. McMath's steal and layup gave Fort Sumner the lead for good 37-35 midway through the third period, and they went on to lead 46-39 at quarter's end.
Fort Sumner, which got 14 points from senior Kolter West, hit 5-of-6 free throws in the final two minutes to put the game away.
Senior guard Rylan Calbert scored 17 points for the Longhorns, and junior forward Hayes Frost added 10.
